By HPvet, Geneva, Illinois, March 22, 2013 – Best I’ve Owned (36 x 24 x 27)

Having raised and cage trained many dogs from pups, we’ve usually given the bulky cages away after successful house breaking. We found this to be the best we have owned over the years because:

  • 1) Cage is very sturdy. Others we have used have had much thinner and more easily bent wire.
  • 2) Two doors. Inevitably you need to place the cage in a position where a side door is needed.
  • 3) Divider to constrain puppies. A divider is the way to train a small pup, limiting their ability to relieve themselves to only where they rest. They get it much more quickly. In every other situation, I built my own divider out of plywood. This would have saved me construction time and readjusting as they grew. Another suggestion – Don’t use towels or blankets that might absorb urine during taining. Once or twice and your dog “gets it.” Introduce a blanket or pad only after they are trustworthy in the crate.
  • 4) Best fold and setup of any cage I have owned.
  • 5) Price. Checked out three big box pet stores. This was a better value for all the items above at a lower price.
  • 6) Liked the plastic tray for our situation as our dog is house broken and not a chewer. Think a metal insert might have been better for pups.

Cons:

1) Rough spots on wire end edge at doorways. I used a fine file to smooth out the sharp edges I found on several wire ends. The manufacturer should have done the same smoothing they used on the corners at the door openings.

2) Clips not fully closed. There are metal clips that act as hinges for set up and fold down. Several were not completely clamped close, again making an unsafe edge for you or your pet. A pair of pliers made quick work of that problem. I really wanted to give this product a five. But I just felt the slight safety issue was significant enough to mark it down to a four. No blood should ever be spilled by either pet or owner.

Update: The manufacturer contacted me via Email on this issue. Manufacturing mgmt wanted the date code off the unit to remedy the problem I am very impressed by their follow-up and attention to Amazon comments!

By Heidi Joy Rogers, December 15, 2014 – A Sturdy Perfect Dog Crate (42 x 28 x 31)

This is a FANTASTIC constructed cage. It is very sturdy. It is very easy to assemble. It does weigh a ton – but that’s because it is so solid. I have actually ordered two because we travel between two homes frequently. I bought TWO of these for less than the price of one at the major pet stores… and it was WAY better! The two doors are great.

By Angela M., December 14, 2014 – Quite An Upgrade From Old Crate (36 x 24 x 27)

I bought this on a whim when we had to leave our dog in the care of a dog sitter while we were out of town for a funeral. I felt bad she would be in her crate for longer periods while we were gone so I thought a bigger crate was in order. I love the dual door! We have this crate in our family room, I have the front door facing our furniture and the side door opens to the door where our dog goes outside. We keep the side door open for our dog if she wants to go in and take a nap and because it’s on the side it doesn’t get in our way. Our old crate had the single latch, the double latch is a nice added security. A nice tip we found with these folding crates is if the dog pushes hard enough they push down the front panel (this only happened on our old crate not this one) but we found a way to remedy this if it’s happened to you. We bought some zip ties and attached them to the top in the front and back, trim off the access plastic, if you need to fold the crate just snip them off.

By Robert Weddle, December 8, 2014 – Simple And Effective (30 x 21 x 24)

Fairly simple to put together, but solidly constructed. Our dog is a 30lbs Boxer mix male. The only thing that gave a bit of trouble was the back of the crate as the side was slightly bent inward and required a bit more muscle. The door is a little stiff to lock, but that is simply due to it being new. It would be nice to have a model with more than one door, but this is definitely a good buy for the price paid.

By Nate Crowl, December 8, 2014 – Excellent Price! My Second Crate (42 x 28 x 31)

Excellent price! This is my second crate from Midwest to house an addition to the family. My first one (which is identical to this one) is 7 years old and still holding strong.

Conclusion

Crates are great for pets which will provide them a safe space and protection and it’s out of the way from heavy traffic areas of the room. Placing a soft pet pad at the bottom of the crate will make it a comfortable bed as well. Crates are also good to help owners to housetrain their pets. This particular model crate had two doors which is a great feature so you have options on where to place it.
